Overcoming Porn Addiction. Part 2: Why we fail to let go of Porn Addiction
Many times we make promises to ourselves that by this day or date we are going to let go of the addiction to porn, we in most cases do not even go past the 1 day or at most 1 week barrier. Why is this so, below I discuss the factors that I believe are the main factors as to why we end up not doing what we want to do.
Let us get started with the reasons.
The pleasure we get in watching porn
If watching porn did not give that high pleasure no one would be indulging it and as we know it is not easy to give up something that is benificial to us. So how do we go about this, well the key to this is having a silent time off and we reflect about the good things vs bad things that we get when we engage in porn. A few of the things to consider are, how is porn addiction affecting my work life, how is it affecting my relationship with other people and for the believers how is it affecting my relationship with God. The answers to these questions may seem easy but if you dive deep in it and reflect about those areas of life you will find that there has been a degradation in those areas and it can always in one or the other be traced back to porn addiction.
We have not yet hit rock bottom
For this I will start with the quote "You do not need to be at your lowest point to get help". The other reason we are failing to let go of porn addiction is we think it would be good for us to let go of porn however we have not faced such a grave negative effect to have no other choice but let of it. If this is you I can assure it's a matter of time before you hit rock bottom and it's better you commit to letting go of the vice when it's still under control than to wait for when the situation into the vice will lead forces you to let go of the situation. Such bad endings to addictions include putting yourself in a recurring financial crisis because of your behaviour, losing your family relationships, losing your job or starting to get involved in more dangerous behaviours like prostitution etc
We do not deeply want to let go of the addiction
This might sound strange, but I will use a simple example of an employee who is supposed to report to work at 8AM, because the employee reallys need to keep their Job they will do all it takes to ensure they reach work on time. If we are true to our selves and are really committed to let go of the addiction, we will do everything in our powers to ensure we let go of the vice.
